Frequently asked questions

Yes! We are now happy to offer shipping of the Trunk Bunk all throughout the contiguous/lower 48 of the United States. The only thing we cannot ship is the fully assembled Trunk Bunk or our custom work. Both are available for local pickup in Seattle or Port Townsend. At this time we cannot offer shipping to Alaska, Hawaii or internationally, although we hope to change that soon. The current cost of shipping to those locations is just too high. However, if you are really determined to get something from us and live outside the lower 48 of the US, send us an email and we’ll see if we can work something out.

In person custom consultations can be purchased on our web store for $250, this charge will be deducted from your total balance when you approve the project. From there we have a minimum charge of $2500 for any custom job to ensure that projects we take on are worth the time of our skilled engineers and craftspeople. From there it really depends on just how elaborate you want the custom work to be! After the estimate is complete we ask for half the total balance to start the job and collect the other half when the project is complete and you are satisfied. Please contact us for a free over the phone chat, we would love to hear about the ideas you have floating around for your adventure-mobile.

Yes! All of our products are designed to be easily removed and reinstalled by the users so that you don’t have to commit your vehicle to a permanent alteration. The Trunk Bunk in particular is very easy to remove from your car and doesn’t take a ton of space to stow away. In fact, it can fit in the rear compartment space of most vehicles when not being used so you can regain use of your rear seats when you’re not camping out. Want to learn more about the Trunk Bunk? Our custom work focuses pretty strictly on the woodworking side of vehicle conversions. We would be more than happy to work with you to ensure your build has the proper housing sizes for any appliances you may be installing, but we do not work on those kinds of technical installations ourselves.

The Trunk Bunk is made up of two interlocking platform sections that are 2.5 feet and 3 feet long in the standard model. This can be mixed and matched to make a version that is 5 feet, 5.5 feet or 6 feet long depending on your vehicle and preferences. We also have an extension platform that connects to the end when you’re ready for bed that adds an extra foot of sleeping space to allow for taller individuals to camp comfortably in their vehicles.

At its narrowest setting the Trunk bunk is 24 inches wide, allowing for plenty of space to put a Thermarest or other standard sleeping pad. At its widest the Trunk Bunk expands to about 42 inches wide which allows for two sleepers or something like a twin bed to fit on the platform. The beauty of the slatted design allows you to expand and contract to any length in that range!

The entire inspiration for Camp N Car comes from the shared experiences of the companies founders. Our managing director Steve Moore lived out of a special Honda Element camper in Alaska for 6 months which was designed by our Technical Director Martin Nerbovig. Through this experience he gained a deep insight into living a fulfilling and minimalist lifestyle on the road. After awhile friends started asking about getting builds of a similar nature done for their vehicles and here we are today! We are happy to share our experiences and skills with the world so that others may share in the same kind of joy that this travel brings. Everything we make is designed with a great deal of thorough engineering and care using advanced software and expensive machinery. From there we pick top quality and sustainable materials and hand craft everything here in Washington State to an extremely high standard. The reality of doing all of this means we can’t offer goods that are as cheap as stuff you can buy out of China, but we are determined to continue being a company that manufactures solely in the United States and supports our local economy. The result may be something a bit more expensive, but the quality and care and customer service speaks for itself.

When we designed the Trunk Bunk we aimed for the perfect height that balanced being able to store gear underneath with having the headspace to sit up in your vehicle. The Trunk Bunk sits a little over 8 inches tall meaning you can store a good deal of compact gear underneath and comfortably sit up in many vehicles such as vans and Honda Elements.
